January 1, 2011 - Happy New Year wishes from all the Sterling and North'Star sammies and their owners!
January 12 - Record snowfall in central Connecticut and Marion's sammies are wading around up to their armpits! The VT and NH dogs have dry powder snow - perfect for frolicing. Did you know you can dig out mole trails from under the snow with just your nose?
January 15 - Rumor's puppies are one month old today and getting furry and very cute.
January 24 - 22 degrees below zero today. The dogs don't seem to notice, though they run into the house with their faces and whiskers all frosty from their breath.
January 31 - Marion's good friend Ed shoveled the roofs of the house and kennel (wouldn't we all love friends like that!) to the sammie's great amusement. "Hey Ed, just slide off that roof while we laugh at you, then lick you all over.
Dec. 15, 2010 - Rumor has her puppies! 3 girls and 2 boys all fat and healthy. Rumor is pleased and getting used to her new job. Dad (Sterling's Dreamland Express) is being no help at all!
Dec.25 - Santa did not bring the Vermont sammies any reindeer to herd, but they are observing with trepidation the new dogsled that has mysteriously appeared. The youngsters are curious and whispering amongst themselves; the older ones are guessing that anything has to be better than that old rickety sled that liked to tip over whenever they went around a turn, or picked up speed. It would have been more fun for them if mom had ever let go, but miraculously she never did.
Nov. 2010 - Darcy (GCH. Sterling's Dream Works) at the tender age of 19 months wins his 6th Best of Breed over eight specials at the Windham County Kennel Club in Springfield, MA and earned his Grand Championship. Not to be outdone, his littermate Squilly (Sterling's Bear Hug) is Best Bred- By Exhibitor dog and wins a group 2 in the BBE working group.
Good news - Rumor (Ch. Sterling's Top Secret) is pregnant! Puppies expected mid December
Oct. 2010 - We are so excited that 3 of Marion's dogs are invited to show at the prestigious Eukanuba Invitational Dog Show in Long Beach, CA this december. Ch. Cuvee's Bridget Bordeaux and Ch. Sterling's Dreamland Express are eligable for being in the top 20 Samoyeds for 2009, and Ch. Sterling's Dream Works for finishing his championship from the Bred By Exhibitor class
Marion and her good friends Betty and Ed are off to the Samoyed Club of America National Specialty Show in Pigeon Forge, Tennesse. They intended to have a good time, make and reconnect with friends, and show their dogs. However, Marion's Teddy (Sanorka's Litely Toasted Copper) has a suprise - she wins Best Veteran in Show! And to top it off, her Kizzy (Moonsong's Kiss from a Rose) is named SCA's top brood bitch for 2009! Instead of driving, they floated home.
February 1, 2011 - Marion's original drawings are finally on the site! Blame the webmaster for it taking so long. Please check them out - they really capture our favorite breed's wonderful personality. Among her many other talents, she is an accomplished artist who trained, among other places, at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She will be mad at me for writing all this, but the drawings really are special - and for sale.
February 2 - Another big dump of snow for all of us in New England. The sammies are treating it like old news.
February 6 - An additional 10 inches of snow combined with a thunder storm arrives in the middle of the night in north central Vermont. On top of that, almost 3 feet of snow comes sliding off the roof with a tremendous bang at 3 am. What are those pogo sticks with wet tongues bouncing up on the bed?
February 24 - Harry celebrates his 12th birthday. He is just as opinionated and sassy as ever!
February 27 - Marion and friends Betty and Ed spent the day sledding in western MA. Pasha and Carlotta got to go and learned a new skill. " We can do that. Yippee! Off we go!"
March 14 - Exciting news - Scandal is pregnant! Her puppies are expected in early April.
March 19 and 20 - The Sterling crew goes to their first event in 2011 - the CT River Working Group show and the Minuteman Samoyed Club Specialty show. Squilly, Kelev, DaKota, Teddy and Roo got to strutt their stuff and friends Betty and Ed were official dog holders. It was fun to see all 60+ samoyeds entered and everyone had a good time.
March 29 - The grass is getting green in Connecticut, but mud season has arrived in Vermont and New Hampshire. Watch for pictures of muddy dogs!
April 7 - Finally! Scandal has her puppies! 5 boys and 2 girls. Everyone is doing well.
April 17 - Maple sugaring season is over in Vermont this year, and Harry (seen below) has lost his job as official mascot of the team in the sugarhouse. He loves to follow the guys around in the woods, hang out in the sugarhouse while the syrup is being boiled, greet visitors and be fed leftovers. He is a little depressed right now.
April 21 - Scandal's puppies are 2 weeks old today and are starting to open their eyes and be aware of their surroundings. All are fat and happy.
North'Star's Aurora and Sterling's Roo are going to show handling classes. They are being shown how to handle their owners. Or so they think. Seriously, dogs and owners are being taught by a former top junior handler, and the dogs are learning quickly. As for the owners - well, lets just say that the instructor has a lot of patience.
April 22 - Squilly (Sterling's Bear Hug) is Winners Dog for 1 point at the Springfield Kennel Club show in West Springfield, MA.
April 24 - Squilly's sister Roo (Sterling's Kashmiri Rose) is Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, and Best of Opposite Sex at the South Windsor Kennel Club show, also in Springfield. Guess those handling classes are starting to pay off.
April 25 - Pictures of Pasha's and Scandal's puppies are on the website.e to add text.
June 17 - North'Star's Aila is going to have puppies! She is due the first week of July. Satara of North'Star is the proud Dad-to-be. Aila is a full sister to the stunning Ch. North'Star's Tundra Mist, who was runner up open bitch at the 2007 Samoyed National Specialty Show.
May 19 through 22 - Christa and Marion trekked to Maine for a dog show and some time on the beach. Squilly (Sterling's Bear Hug) had a big weekend being Winners Dog 3 days winning 1 point on Thurs., 3 points on Fri. and 3 points on Sun. However, his favorite part of the weekend was to get to stuff his head in the surf and then roll in the sand on Old Orchard Beach. Kelev, Satara and Aurora loved the beach as well. Click here for pictures.
May 27 and 28 - DaKota (Sterling's Good Just Got Better) won two 5 point majors at back to back Specialty shows at New Castle, PA. His owner Jimma Stevens and the whole Sterling family are so proud of him!
